Quicken Essentials for Mac has been dropped and now there is a Quicken 2015. It looks like it has a lot of features, but at $75 not ready to jump on that bandwagon and upgrade from my Quicken Essentials just yet. I do like the fact that it is compatible with the Quicken iOS apps for iPad and iPhone.

HomeQuicken for MacErrors and Troubleshooting (Mac)
edited October 2018 in Errors and Troubleshooting (Mac)

I just got standard wallet sized checks from my major bank. Quicken for Mac 2015 prints them almost ok. There's a numbered amount in the upper right before the check details are spelled out below. Quicken's Print Checks feature specifies this wallet size fine. But the numbers after the decimal point in the numerical amount overprints the word, 'Dollars' that should appear to the right of the numbers. Is there a way to fix that alignment, or is this just another bug with this software? I am using a Brother MFC 8890DW printer.

apparently you can only change the alignment of the entire check, not individual lines as can be done in Quicken for Windows. That makes all these suggestions MOOT

    Randolph,
You are commenting on a thread that is over a year old. If you are you having a similar problem, please create a new conversation so your problem gets the visibility and attention it deserves.
If you would like to request the ability to adjust the alignment of individual lines on your checks, you can do so by posting an IDEA here in the Community. IDEAS are reviewed by the Quicken developers for consideration in future releases and/or products.

If you are having an issue with printing of Wallet Checks and the positioning of the Date and numeric Amount fields are off, you are using old, unsupported check stock dating back to before 2006.

Quicken Mac 2015-17 only support Wallet Checks that are 'Check 21 - compliant' (a federal requirement to make paper checks readable by automated check processing equipment). Pre-'Check 21' formatted wallet checks do not meet that requirement.

On-screen help is available on a desktop, laptop or the TurboTax mobile app. Service, area of expertise, experience levels, wait times, hours of operation and availability vary, and are subject to restriction and change without notice. Unlimited access to TurboTax Live CPAs and EAs refers to an unlimited quantity of contacts available to each customer, but does not refer to hours of operation or service coverage. Mac

You need to order new check forms that are both Quicken-compatible and Check 21 - compliant.

    For a review of
Quicken - compatible check styles and perhaps to order new supplies, please see
https://intuitmarket.intuit.com/checks (the website talks about checks for use with
QuickBooks but the same style checks also work with Quicken)

Not wallet. Business checks. New ones just received.

Not wallet. Business checks. New ones just received.

    Possibility 1:
Check stock is not Quicken compatible. Compare with the Intuit website I gave you earlier.

    Possibility 2:
Some printers 'auto-detect' the inserted paper and do not properly recognize check forms as 8.5 * 11' standard paper. That causes the printer to adjust the printed image size by zooming in/out a few percentage points.
Make sure the printer is set to 8.5 * 11 standard paper at 100% size when printing checks.

Here is the point: You can not adjust one field without it affecting all the others in re-aligning. If you have a solution to that, I'm all eyes. It does not matter what check stock you use.
I trust we are talking about Quicken for MAC 2017

    No, the point is:

If you use the proper Quicken-compatible check stock and your printer prints correctly, there is no need to individually adjust any fields on the check form whatsoever.

Quicken-compatible forms are designed to work with the software and print correctly, plus/minus minor adjustments of the total image up, down, left or right.

Now I understand. No substitutions. Thank you for your insight.

Mac or Windows? US or Canadian? Year version and release? Printer? Check type?
I know for sure that Windows has an alignment feature. If that is your version of Quicken, let me know and I'll walk you through it.
If it's Mac..then someone with a Mac background will help you.

Very disappointed with Quicken for Mac 2016. I had to change banks and got their free checks, and these will not work as I need to align specific areas and not all. Very poor programming.

Why poor programming? Your bank misled you into believing that the check are 'Quicken Compatible'. Apparently they're not. Blame your bank and complain LOUDLY to them.

The check printing portion of the program should be able to handle different check formats, my old Quicken Windows version did. With as powerful a program as Quicken is, they should be able to allow check printing formatting. Oh that is right then they wouldn't be able to get the extra bucks out of us for their special checks!!

Very disappointed with Quicken for Mac 2016. I had to change banks and got their free checks, and these will not work as I need to align specific areas and not all. Very poor programming.

The different check formats in Quicken Windows are Standard, Wallet Check 21 compliant and three part voucher checks.
You can't change the fields in any of those..but you can change the vertical and horizontal alignment of the entire check printing.
This isn't a scam for Quicken to make extra money.
If you'd even Google 'Quicken compatible checks' you will find plenty of independent vendors selling checks that work perfectly with Quicken at much lower prices..with no payment to Quicken whatsoever. I, personally, have NEVER bought Quicken compatible checks from Quicken. And buying them from a third party is also way cheaper than getting ripped off from your bank by purchasing checks through them.
But I don't see you blaming the bank for that!
Nice assumption..but wrong on your part.
